Haynes is among the top-performing charter schools in Washington D.C. and is recognized locally and nationally as a model and for our exceptional student achievement gains. E.L. Haynes currently serves 1,200 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Role Overview

An Assistant Principal in Residence (APR) is an aspiring school leader who is interested in learning more about school leadership through an intensive one year experience. The APR is committed to actively contributing to the success of E.L. Haynes and will align their support to the vision and responsibilities of the school leadership team. 

 

The APR’s role mirrors that of an Assistant Principal: namely, leading both instruction and school culture as the leader of a subsets of teachers and students in either specific grade levels or departments. 

 

APRs will participate in high quality professional development including coaching and cohort based learning experiences with other Assistant Principals across campuses. 

 

The AP in Residence will primarily support the middle school and high school campuses and reports to the Chief Academic Officer. This is a one-year position ending on June 30, 2025. 

 

Starting Salary: $102,000 - $132,500

 

Responsibilities

The APR serves as an instructional leader, administrator, and coach. The Assistant Principal in Residence is responsible for ensuring that all students reach high levels of academic success and supervising teaching staff. The APR reports to the Chief Academic Officer and works closely with the school leadership team serving as an integral part of the elementary school leadership team to provide consistent, effective school leadership.
